Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQs
How are your lessons different from other tutors/platforms?
"We reject one-size-fits-all teaching. Every lesson is customized to your learning style (visual, auditory, or hands-on), goals, and even interests—like using fantasy novels for reading practice or song lyrics for grammar."
Do you offer free trial lessons?
"Yes! Book a 25-minute consultation to experience our teaching style risk-free. Send us an email with your name, some basic information about goals and needs, and we will get back to you within 24 hours.”
How do placement tests work?
"Tell us what area(s) are in need of assistance. We will provide a free online assessment, then we’ll recommend the perfect course (e.g., TOEFL Prep, ESL A2). Tests are free and non-binding."
How do I sign up for lessons?
“As of right now we are using Google Workplace for scheduling. Send us an email via the contact page with your name and basic info, followed by some general information about your needs and goals. We will respond within 24 hours, and we can discuss the best time for a free trial lesson. Afterward, If you decide to subscribe to our program, then we will create a permanent time-slot within Google Workplace Calendar, and send an access link via email.”
What program/application do you use to host the lessons?
“We use Google Meet/Workplace to host our lessons, but if you do not have access to this program ( primarily Chinese Students), then we also offer the Classin app for lesson hosting, as well as Zoom. “
TEST PREP FAQ
Can you help with state-specific tests like STAAR?
"Absolutely! We drill your state’s exam format until it feels second nature, with materials tailored to Texas, California, etc."
ESL/ELL FAQ
I’m a beginner (A1). Will your lessons be too advanced?
"Not at all! We specialize in ‘survival English’ for beginners, using visuals and real-world scenarios (like ordering food or asking for directions)."
Do you teach accent reduction?
"Yes! Our phonics-based method gently corrects pronunciation through conversational practice—no boring drills."
LOGISTICS FAQ
What’s your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
"Cancel or reschedule up to 3 hours before your lesson. Late cancellations/reschedules incur a 50% fee."
Can I use my own curriculum?
"Of course! I will adapt to your school’s materials or preferred books (just share them with me in advance)."
Do you follow any of the homeschooling curriculums?
“I know that some states require private teachers/tutors to be certified for homeschooling in order for the parent/child to receive the grants. If you are interested in having me as your tutor, I am willing to pay for and get specific state certifications for homeschooling as it will only further build my credentials. Just send me a message providing the information necessary, and I will take care of the rest.”
How do payments work?
"Pay per-lesson or in advance via PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. After we’ve had our trial lesson, and agreed upon set lesson times and fees. I will provide the link for one of the three payment methods based on your choosing.”
Can you do group classes for reduced pricing?
“Yes I can definitely do group classes for a reduced price; however, you will need to bring the additional students to the class. I cannot go out and find students to fill those additional slots. If, there is another student at the same level, who is willing to break from the 1v1 to do a group session, then that can be adjusted, but otherwise you will need to bring any additional students to the platform.
